We mentioned a few weeks ago our distaste for carpeted cat furniture and the potential health hazards (such as hyperthyroidism) fire retardants and petroleum based furnishings pose to cats. Looks like someone read our blog Saw one on the street yesterday…

Caboodle Corrugated Cat Habitats are made exclusively from all natural recycled heavy duty double wall corrugated cardboard and soy based inks. The entire product is recyclable and contains no petroleum based products! You will be surprised when you open our product and smell absolutely no chemical off-gassing!

Caboodle is made in the USA at a factory that manufactures corrugated paper, creating a relatively tiny carbon footprint when compared to a product made in China or even out of state. The reality is, we don’t need to fly half way around the globe or even jump on a plane to oversee production and ensure quality, we just make a short drive south to our manufacturing and distribution partners. Furthermore, our product does not need to make a 7000 mile journey to get to our warehouse. As a matter of fact we’ve only logged about 300 driving miles in the making of Caboodle, and the distance finished inventory traveled to our warehouse  is only a couple clicks over 15 miles.

We ran our local US operation vs. if we made the product in China on terrapass’s carbon footprint calculator and were shocked by what we discovered.

Locally made in the USA     = 3 round trips = 300 driving miles = 200 lbs of C02 emissions

If manufactured in China*  = 3 round trips = 41,484 flying miles = 18+ tons of CO2 emissions (GASP!)

*These numbers do not include shipping product to the USA and assumes that we got off the plane and held all our meetings in the Hong Kong airport
